Poljot: 40 Years Of Polar Aviation

I am trying to figure out the exact details about this Poljot (2609 Caliber) with the dial "40 Years Of Polar Aviation" watch. Apart from some of the information in forum.watch.ru, I would love to find out more about it.

The problem is the dial only has the words - Polar Aviation and a number 40, and I don't have year reference here. However the similar dial of Poljot (without the drawing) can be found in 1970 watches catalog -

So this watch is most likely produced in late 60s or early 70s. After searching around the internet, I accidentally stumbled across this interesting badge -

The inscription on the badge - 40 лет, Полярная авиация (МГА), 1929-1969 basically means 40 Years, Polar Aviation (USSR Ministry of Civil Aviation), 1929-1969. Identify the similarity - 3 penguins ;)

With this information in hand, I able to dig more about the background history, and few other correlated links -

Polar aviation  - special units of Civil Aviation, designed to provide transport and research flights in the polar regions of the Northern and Southern hemispheres. Flights over the polar regions are organized and carried out with taking into account the physical - geographical and meteorological conditions of these areas, as well as the complexity samolotovozhdeniya in them, due to lack of natural and man-made landmarks, frequent changes in weather conditions, lower temperatures of the air, the duration of the polar day ( night ), unstable operation of the magnetic compasses and means communication .

The founders of the ice reconnaissance , pioneers of the northern routes were pilots Chukhnovsky, A . D . Alekseev, Kalvitsa, Grandma , F . B . Farih , M . And . Kozlov, M . H . Kaminsky, P . R . Golovin , In . H . Galyshev and  others. The 1929 flight Chukhnovsky, Alekseev, and . By . Ivanova started regular jet service annual Kara expeditions. Since 1932 airplanes provide movement of vessels in the eastern sector Arctic ( through the Bering Strait in the mouth of a river Kolyma ). With  the help of aircraft was carried out development of Northern sea way. From occasional flights ice reconnaissance the crews of aircraft moved to close the wiring convoys of ships. Flights to ice reconnaissance, as a rule, carried out at the seaplane, based on board ships and icebreakers. Since  the end of 30 - x  years. started to use for ice reconnaissance aircraft ground-based. Since 1936 the whole route of the Northern sea way has provided occasional ice reconnaissance .

In order to centralize the work associated with the development of the Northern Sea Route, 17 December 1932. It was organized by the General Directorate of the Northern Sea Route under the Sovnarkom of the USSR, as part of which was established aeronautical management (by the NSRA Order №10 dated February 19, 1933.), converted in 1934. the Office of Polar Aviation Glavsevmorputi.

How acute was the shortage of trained personnel in the polar aviation, can be judged by this fact. During 1934 alone payroll Arctic Operational Flight Group has doubled - from 20 to 42 people, and required much more. As a result, November 29, 1934 the Central Board and Management Osoaviahima Glavsevmorputi air services signed an agreement on the transfer of Mykolayiv school of marine pilots in maintaining Polar Aviation. School Transfer began Dec. 25, 1934, and from January 1, 1935 a new school was named Nikolaev school marine pilots Glavsevmorputi.

Based on the information found here, this Poljot watch was most likely released in year 1969 to commemorate 40 years of Polar Aviation Office under USSR Ministry Of Civil Aviation. Looking back at the history of USSR watches factory, there's high possibility the watches could be the special order by Ministry Of Civil Aviation for Polar Aviation Unit and therefore you won't find many of them circulating around. Unfortunately the Polar Aviation Unit was closed down in 1970.

If you love to know more about the history of USSR polar aviation, this is interesting read too -

One of the valuable photo from the link above, where Chukhnovskiy (First soviet pilot to fly in Arctic and pioneer of Polar Aviation Office) meeting up with Legendary pilot Nagurskiy and Vodop Yanov.

Besides all these interesting stories, my favorite image of Polar Aviation history (source: http://dkw-rus.narod.ru/dopolnenie.html) -

Now you know where all these Polar Bears and Penguins coming from ;)

As I am using Google Translate to understand  the content of Russian websites, sometimes my context maybe incorrect, I welcome any constructive input and correction. Thank you!

Additional update (20170906):

I just found more information about the design of the dial, and look at the last photo from this website  (Faces of the Soviet era. Part 79. People of Dickson Island) -

I am adding the transcript here so information is not lost in case any site is closed.
